Film Review: Cafe Society

In this movie, Café Society, writer and director, Woody Allen, gives us a look into the beauty and glamour of 1930’s Hollywood contrasted with the grittier, hard-living New York lifestyle. He also offers up many deeper messages through this visual exploration of love, marriage, dreams, ideals, money, and vice.

Like in the film “Midnight In Paris”, we are again invited on a journey of dreams vs. reality, taking chances, and finding happiness (or at least examining the search for it). In this Chick Flick Chat, I discuss the details of this film – beyond the roles for women – to get to the underlying meaning of the director’s choices. While on the surface, it’s all shiny and beautiful, but that beauty belies the reality of the human condition and desires that this story brings to light. All that glitters is not gold.

Best quote of this film:

Live every day like it’s your last and some day you’ll be right.

Spoiler alert! I let you know at the beginning of the podcast, but I just want to remind you that I detail the whole plot. Let me know your thoughts on this film after you see it. Question: What is with the water locations? (You’ll know what I mean after you listen.) Enjoy!
